When global lightning surges, signal power jumps across the whole band at once, painting dramatic white columns up the chart, sometimes touching the 40 Hz region at the top. - The harmonics. The resonance has always had overtones near 14.3, 20.8, 27.3, and 33.8 Hz; they were in the very first measurements in the 1960s. Someone encountering the spectrogram for the first time sees signal at 33.8 Hz, remembers hearing "Earth resonates at 7.83 Hz," and concludes the frequency has quadrupled. It hasn't; a guitar string has always produced overtones above its fundamental.
A useful analogy: a piano tuner's question is "what note is this?"; the viral posts are answering "how hard was the key struck?" Amplitude is the volume knob. Frequency is the station. The station hasn't changed.

The rising-frequency story rarely travels alone. Its usual companions fail faster than the original:
"Time is speeding up; a day now feels like 16 hours." This one is directly falsifiable, because humanity keeps time with atomic clocks accurate to a second per hundreds of millions of years. "HAARP is changing Earth's frequency." HAARP, the ionospheric research array in Alaska, transmits at 2.7–10 megahertz, roughly a million times higher than the Schumann band. Its heating experiments can generate faint, localized, short-lived ELF signals for research, which is sometimes cited as the gotcha. But generating a weak signal in a frequency band is not the same as changing the resonant frequency of the planet; that frequency is set by Earth's size.
